Matthew Smith is a trial lawyer at Gomez Zwibel, where he focuses on personal injury and medical malpractice cases, with a special emphasis on Federal Tort Claims Act cases involving injuries at military and Veterans Affairs medical facilities. Prior to joining Gomez Zwibel, Matthew gained extensive litigation experience during his nine years of active-duty service as a judge advocate (JAG) in the United States Marine Corps. During his time in the Marine Corps, Matthew represented clients during assignments to Japan, southern California, and Headquarters Marine Corps. Matthew implements the lessons learned and fighting spirit gained from his service to represent victims of catastrophic personal injury, wrongful death, medical negligence, and defective products.
Matthew is a double Gator, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, cum laude, from the University of Florida in 2004, and his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2007. He is admitted to practice in all Florida courts, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and before military courts-martial.
Matthew continues his service to the country as a lieutenant colonel in the Marine Corps Reserves. Matthew also serves as a volunteer mentor for the Hillsborough County Veterans Treatment Court.
